Prof. Detlev Ganten is Co-Founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Virchow Foundation. The non-profit foundation was established in 2021 with the support of the Presidents of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. He is one of the world's leading scientists in the field of cardiovascular diseases and genomics. Prof. Ganten was the Founding Director of the World Health Summit and President of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers, a member of the National Ethics Council, founding director of the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) Berlin-Buch and CEO of the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
