Dr. Paul Hammer is the founder and CEO of BIOMES, a European bio- and deep-tech company specializing in microbiome analysis and data-driven personalized health solutions. He received his PhD in Systems Biology and Bioinformatics from the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Potsdam in 2012. His work focuses on translating cutting-edge life science technologies into practical healthcare applications that improve individual health and wellbeing. Dr. Hammer combines high-throughput DNA sequencing technologies with machine learning algorithms to analyze complex biological datasets and generate personalized insights into human health. Following his interdisciplinary scientific education, he conducted research and participated in multiple innovation projects at renowned institutions including the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin. He began his entrepreneurial career in 2010 and has since been involved in several biotechnology and genomics ventures. In 2017 he founded BIOMES, a biotechnology company that analyzes the DNA of microorganisms living in and on the human body using Next Generation Sequencing technologies. Based on these analyses, BIOMES generates personalized microbiome profiles and delivers data-driven recommendations to improve individual health, nutrition, and lifestyle. Under his leadership, BIOMES has built one of the largest curated microbiome datasets in Europe and developed AI-based interpretation systems to translate biological data into actionable health insights. In addition to his role as founder and CEO, Dr. Hammer is also active as a business angel, supporting and investing in early-stage startups in the fields of biotechnology, health, food, climate, technology, and data-driven innovation. Since 2020, Dr. Hammer has also been a lecturer for Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences, sharing his experience in biotechnology innovation and startup development.
